The History of Bollywood

The History of Bollywood

Bollywood is a mixture of Hollywood and Mumbai (Bombay). It has a long and rich history that goes almost as far back as that of Hollywood. Bollywood is a Hindi film industry, mostly in a Hindi language which is in Mumbai. It does not cover all of Indian cinema, covering only about 20% of the total film output of India.
Raja Harish Chandra was the first movie created in 1913 which was released on May 3, 1913 at the Coronation Theater in Mumbai. It was a silent movie, not at all sounds, not any technological equipment’s and not recognize in film making. It was so simple.

Earlier making a movie was easy, less stress since there were not competitions in the Indian Industry, no fashionable dresses and most of the actresses were wearing sari’s and the salaries were limited comparing by nowadays. Audiences and viewers were not aware about world of Bollywood but they were curiosity and interested to know about Indian Cinema.
The major commercial success was in 1931 when the first sound film production was released and named as Alam Ara.  This introduced the famous actor, Ashok Kumar from Bengal, whose full name was Sanjay Ashok Kumar Ganguly.

Development (1940-1960)

In 1940 to 1960 there were so many films released which was the best movies ever seen by the audiences and viewers. These periods was known as Golden Age of Bollywood film industry just because of the historical films. Here are a few unforgettable movies:
·       Pyaasa (1957)
·       Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959)
·       Awaara (Raj Kapoor films 1951)
·       Shree 420 (1955)
·       Mother India (1957): This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film
·       Mughal-e-Azam (1960)

Film performers or actors like Raj Kapoor, Dileep Kumar, Manoj Kumar and actresses like Nargis, Vyjantimala and Saira Banu became industrial names which built up the Bollywood cinema in the 1960s. Also we should be thankful to the people who had played an important role as playback singers for all the movies during 1960s and became popular all around the world; the two famous names are Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.
During this time the industry was growing and the first color film was released named Kisan Kanya. Shooting in this period 1940-1960s was a greater, larger and better than years ago; some movie shooting took place in outdoors not only indoors.

Modern Developments.

Bollywood had to go a long way until it got this kind of fame. People worked very hard in this industry. Everyone in this world likes to watch Hindi movies (Bollywood). The scenarios which they are using these days touch almost every issue that belongs to the community.
The latest issues that Bollywood are trying to attract people with are family’s problems and impairment issues and not only that some time they give solutions for the problems. Budgets of the movies are becoming bigger and bigger. The movie makers think it is like some kind of investment. Those people put a lot of money and they have sponsors to invest too. If we think about it is like gambling, either it will be a good movie or it will be a bad one.

My reflection

During the course I and my colleagues had some interesting subjects. We had to do summaries about them. The first subject was desert horsemen who keep the peace. I did not enjoy it very much because I don’t care about people who live in a desert. Writing about the people I don’t know about in my opinion is boring. But I had to do it because it is part of the study schedule.

Road crashes are one main cause of child death in UAE and this was the second subject we had. Now this kind of subject I like to have for my task. I enjoyed writing this summary because I am interested about the problems that we as humans are dealing with every day. The subject that Mr. Hedley has given us was good but sadly at was about people dying.

The third and final subject we got was about tour which provides insight into pearl diving. This one also I liked because it’s talking about grandfathers. As Shaik Zaid Al Nehyaan (God bless his soul) said who does not have a past he does not have a present.  This paragraph had impact on me. It made me think how hard living in the pas.

In conclusion, having those kinds of paragraphs can make us not only as a student but also as humans to appreciate the life we are living.

Pearls diving before and now

In the 20th century people were working in the sea. There were more than 1,000 boats. This work was the base for them to live. More than 20,000 were leaving their families looking for pearls. Now a day the pearl diving became a hobby and business.  Companies such as EMEG Emirates Marine Environmental Group are doing trips looking for pearls. Black pearls are what they are looking for specifically. As Major Ali Suwaidi said to Gulf News reporters pearl diving is not like a century ago. Back in those days pearls were traded for goods. Before the pearls were so cheap because there was a lot people getting them. In those days you could see pearl divers. Pearls became very expensive. Looking back in every 100 oysters you may be fine one pearl, said Ali Suwaidi. Hotels such as Jumeirah Beach Hotel are doing journeys for guests to look for pearls. And the advantage of that is whoever finds one can keep the pearl for himself.

Most important issue in UAE

These days the traffic has increased. People became more intelligent but they are very bad in thinking of their safety. Car accidents are the number one problem that is hovering in the community. This problem became the most talked about issue. The authorities are trying their best to educate people who sit behind the steering wheel.  Some organizers believe that the authorities have to make an effort, especially for kids who are 10 years old and their parents let them sit in the front without wearing seat belts.

Authorities like HAAD Health Authority Abu Dhabi, says that large numbers of children are dying because of those accidents. Today there are many companies providing a lot of products to keep your kids save while they are with you in the car. One of those products is child safety seats. According to some organizations over 2000 people have been killed in Dubai.  The number will decrease if shops like Baby Shop stores provide child safety products to customers.

Brave men in the desert

Desert horsemen are very brave. They work in the middle of the desert. They walk around with their horses. The police are part of RAK police patrol division. These men are responsible to keep the desert a peaceful place. They always do their best in their work. Some of the horsemen are Emiratis and others are foreign. The leaders are trying to recruit more Emiratis but can’t. Working as a horseman is very difficult because they have to work late but each one works for a four hour shift. The horses which they have are very good and well trained, so they can stay in the desert.
